Day 39. Weipa.

2.3km morning beach walk for me.

Tides way out
Strange not seeing the sunrise over the water.

Went for a ride ~12kms, out to the power station.
      Reels of conveyor belts.
Home for a coffee, swim and to do a final load of washing. Tomorrow we are moving on towards the Tip.
Mine & Town Tour

Slice of rock showing the bauxite.
Dry dock.
Croc trap, currently not in use as they are less of a risk with the cooler water temperatures in winter.

  4WD on the beach
  Cottonwood trees.

The spot where it's believed the first Europeans landed in Oz.
Different layers. The dirt on top is scraped off, the bauxite extracted then the dirt put back and revegetated.
Red wing parrot
Untouched parts of Weipa.
Original mine workers accommodation. Now only used by contractors as the workers now have an ensuite and air conditioning in the new dongas.
Kindy bin full of alcohol cans 🤷
African Mahogany tree planted when the original town centre was built 63 yrs ago.
Pics from the bauxite mine area.

   Train dumping
Being moved from under the train

    Shipping bauxite to smelters
 Re purposing old truck tyres
We decided to go to the 'Alby'(Albatross Hotel) for dinner as you could sit and watch the sun set over the bay. The meals were good but the view was disappointing as they had the best spot designated to the smokers area 🙄. Our dinner companion.

Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding.

Had a video chat with Greg and Wendy, comparing notes as they travel through most of Australia.
Started the pack up tonight so we can be away early ish in the morning.
